The mother and girlfriend of political prisoner Dzmitry Furmanau have been on a hunger strike near the detention center on Valadarskaha Street in Minsk for the second day in a row.
On July 26, political prisoner’s mother Volha Furmanava and his girlfriend Volha Karakina went on hunger strike near the detention center. They are supported by Dzmitry’s father, Alyaksandr Furmanau.
In a comment to belsat.eu, Volha Karakina noted that the first night went “fine”. According to her, “ordinary people who are not indifferent” all the time come to help and support.
People bring water, give flowers, in the rain they brought raincoats and umbrellas.
Among those who came were also Volha Sevyarynets, the wife of politician Pavel Sevyarynets, Nadzeya, the bride of the Vyarhili Ushak, and a representative of the Mother-328 movement. On 27 July, Svyaatlana Tsikhanouskaya, a presidential candidate, came to support the women on hunger strike.
“About seven people sat with me all night. My parents left to sleep in the apartment, and I was here myself. And guys, girls sat with me all night”, said Volha Karakina.
She said she “wasn’t hungry yet.” The girl feels fine. But Dzmitry Furmanau’s mother is dizzy.
Since the start of the hunger strike, no one has come to them from the detention center, the administration of the institution has not reacted to them. This will not affect the intention of the hunger strikers.
“We are not going to give up, we continue the hunger strike. We will seek [release -Belsat.eu],” said Volha Karakina.
Dzmitry Furmanau, 35, was detained on May 29 during a picket to collect signatures for the nomination of Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya as a candidate for presidency. He was a regional coordinator. On the same day Syarhei Tsikhanouski and his associates were detained.
Furmanau has been charged under Part 1 Article 342 (organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order) of the Criminal Code.
